Remember when......
"I would like to tell you a few
things I remember about the PD years past. Yes, I do remember the vegetable fair. What a sight from the balcony.
The kids masquerade was a special event. My Mom, Alvira Baasch, aunts Dora Wiese and Esther Rauert would all get together
along with Grandma Baasch (Mrs. John) and sew us three girls outfits alike...we always won. We had special costumes.
The 4th of July celebration in the park east of the building and the play ground north. I remember the trees and parking
lot to the west. All the ladies would bring lunch and would gather in the basement (as we called it!) at the end of
the dance. What fun!! Our folks would put us to bed in the car in the summer and line us up on the three beds
upstairs, many times the boards were broke by evenings end in the winters. Sure was glad when I was old enough to stay
up and dance. The balcony was a special place for teenagers and how many times was there a fire cracker lit on the stairs.
(Those were in the days of cherry bombs!) I will always have special memories of the PD and that is where I learned
